CORAL ISLANDS ROSARIO
The islands of Rosario (or Corales del Rosario) is a small archipelago of some 30 islands with a land area of 20 hectares located at the same latitude as Peninsula Baru. Created to protect one of the most important coral reefs of the Caribbean Coast.
The park covers an area of 120,000 ha, from the highest tide line to the beril of 50 meters, includes the continental shelf and coral reefs west of the island of Baru, the reefs of the islands of Our Señora del Rosario and San Bernardo and the continental shelf between the two islands, as well as Treasure Island, Rosario, Múcura and Wonder. This area was declared a National Park because of the need to preserve and protect coral reefs and associated ecosystems such as seagrasses and mangroves, and numerous species of algae and animals that inhabit them.
